Check out Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of our IPM Day Q&A!
With less than a month to go before International Project Management Day – we have Part 3 of our interview with Lori Milhaven, Executive Vice President of Strategic Projects, International Institute for Learning (IIL). As a proud sponsor of this event, we are excited to share what’s changed over the last 20 years of the event and what attendees this year can expect!
Q: 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the event, what’s been the biggest change or evolution of the event in the past 20 years?
A: There have been many changes over the last two decades in the project management space and this event. These are my standouts:
- Before the pandemic, our IIL Media team exclusively filmed speaker presentations in our studio (in person). The challenge we faced was how to continue delivering engaging content without in-person filming. We needed to make a transition to virtual filming and change every process we had come to rely on. Through innovative leadership and cutting-edge technology, we successfully changed to virtual speaker filming. By eliminating the complexities of travel and on-site production, we not only maintained and improved our high production standards but also gained the flexibility to overcome most location-based challenges.
- The project manager’s role has undergone a significant transformation. After attracting a record-breaking crowd of 70,000, our event has been transformed to better serve our customers and clients. Once centered on traditional project management, we’ve broadened our content to encompass the full range of skills needed by today’s project professionals and sought after by leading organizations worldwide.
We now feature experts in leadership, agile methodologies, hybrid work, Generative AI, relationship building, just to name a few. This evolution reflects our dedication to providing attendees with the knowledge and insights essential for future success.
We understand that project management is also an organizational capability. Given the growing need for project management expertise in every role of an organization, our Unlimited License is a valuable investment that has grown over the years. The Unlimited License offers a cost-effective way to enhance skills and drive results throughout the entire organization.
Q: Final thoughts?
A: I am honored to have been a part of the growth and ever-evolving event we call IPM Day. Don’t get me wrong, there were some 4 AM panic sessions, best laid plans gone awry, technology not always our friend. Every year, I create a poem called Ode to IPM Day to recognize the tireless work of our team who make this a success.
For over 20 years, we’ve stayed true to our mission and vision, overcoming challenges—some beyond our control—with passion and purpose. This dedication has made our day one of the most recognized worldwide. I am proud of where we started, where we are today, and where we are headed in the future.
Our IPM Day alumni are the heart of our community. We look forward to sharing our appreciation for their years of dedication and support!
IPM Day truly is The Excellence Equation: People + Purpose + Projects!
