At the end of every interview, you’ll be asked: “Do you have any questions for us?” This is your last chance to stand out and shine, and you should seize this opportunity!
Not asking questions or saying “I think you’ve answered all my questions already” is a missed opportunity and may be viewed less positively.
You should ALWAYS have a few questions reserved for the end that wouldn’t naturally come up during the interview.
Most candidates fall back on predictable questions about the job description or ask about what the next steps are. These are valid, but if you want to leave a lasting impression, you need to ask thoughtful, uncommon questions that show you care about the people, culture, and challenges of the organization.
Here are 5 memorable and powerful questions to ask at the end of your next project management interview:
1) How does your team celebrate wins and successes together?
This question shows that you care about morale, recognition, and culture. It positions you as someone who values teamwork and positivity, while giving you insights into whether the organization actually acknowledges achievements, or just rushes to the next deadline.
2) What challenges or issues keep you up at night?
Most candidates shy away from asking about problems, but this question shows courage and authenticity. It invites the interviewer to share real concerns, giving you valuable insight into what might be difficult in the role. It also positions you as a problem solver who isn’t afraid to step up where it matters most.
3) What's one thing you personally love most about working here?
This humanizes the conversation and allows the interviewer to share something genuine. People light up when they talk about what they enjoy, and that creates a more memorable, positive connection with you.
4) What would a top performer on your team look like?
Instead of asking about generic expectations, this question uncovers the behaviors and soft skills that lead to success in the role. You’ll learn how top performers excel, and then you can subtly highlight how your own strengths align with those qualities.
5) What's the most exciting initiative your team is working on right now?
This question brings energy and curiosity into the conversation. It allows the interviewer to highlight current priorities and innovation within the team. Their answer gives you a window into the company’s direction and the type of work you’d be stepping into, beyond what’s written in the job description.
The questions you ask at the end of an interview can leave just as strong an impression as the answers you gave during the discussion. Ask memorable, human-centered questions to show that you’re thinking beyond just the job description. You’re considering the culture, the challenges, and how you can add the most value.
End on a high note! You got this, project manager!
